"Cards for the Cure" Campaign to Aid Breast Cancer Research The numbers are staggering. One in 8 women is diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. One woman dies of breast cancer every 12 minutes. An organization that is trying to change this is the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This foundation, established in 1982, is the largest private funder of research dedicated solely to breast cancer. Enter Hallmark with one of their most ambitious national fundraising programs ever undertaken. It's called: "Cards for the Cure." Through national advertising customers with be urged to purchase greeting cards between April 18th and May 2. The more cards that are sold, the more funds that can be raised. Hallmark's goal is to raise more than $1,000 during this two- week period to be donated to the Komen Foundation. You'll hear more from Hallmark in the weeks ahead regarding this national campaign. Breast cancer isn't just a "national" concern. Its impact is felt locally...and personally. Enter The Randolph County Mammogram Program. This program was established in 1993 as a method for giving women with minimal or no health insurance an opportunity to receive a mammogram when indicated. The mammograms are provided at the Moberly Regional Medical Center thanks to funding provided by our friends at the Moberly Regional Health Foundation and the United Way. Since 1993, The Randolph County Mammogram Program has provided 204 mammograms to area women. Twelve Ty Millennium Beanie Baby Bears will be Raffled Off to Raise Funding for The Randolph County Mammogram Program. Enter the Coach Light. In conjunction with Hallmark's national "Cards for the Cure" campaign, we will be hosting our own fund-raiser. Last year, the raffling and auctioning off of Ty Beanie Babies helped the Coach Light raise nearly $13,000 for area causes and charities. We feel the time is right for another Beanie Baby raffle. From Monday, April 19th to Saturday, May 1st, we will be raffling off chances to win one of twelve Ty Millennium Bear Beanie Babies. Six will be awarded to children 12 and under; six will be awarded to adults. Tickets will be made available for $1.00 each. 100% of the proceeds will be channeled through the Moberly Regional Health Foundation to support The Randolph County Mammogram Program. Your participation and support of the national and local "Cards for the Cure" campaigns will be appreciated greatly.

Scholarship Applications Being Accepted The Moberly Regional Health Foundation is pleased to serve as a Foundation which encourages and funds educational health care opportunities. Because of this commitment, the Foundation Board of Directors has designated $10,000 in scholarship assistance for Fall 1999. Applications are being taken now for scholarships for the upcoming school year. Area high schools have applications on file. There is also a general scholarship for those who are not graduating high school seniors. In addition, there are scholarship funds for the Will Ben Sims Memorial Scholarship. Those applications may be at City Bank or the Little Dixie Regional Library in Moberly or at the Chariton County Bank in Brunswick. The Foundation will also continue to fund the Lois Massman Nursing Scholarship and three nursing scholarships for the Moberly Area Community College. The deadline for submission is March 26, 1999.
1999 Guidelines for Grant Seekers from the Moberly Regional Health Foundation These guidelines are quite simple. You must be a not-for-profit organization, whose request is health care related or have an unmet need. Submit a letter to the board of directors with your request of funds. These guidelines are just one way we do things to be more effective without losing the best qualities of what we do. Our board and staff have taken a close look at every aspect of our organization to identify ways we could make the Health Foundation's leadership role clearer and more effective in the community.
"Score Points Against Drugs"/K.C. Chiefs Benefit Basketball Game Scheduled Members of the Kansas City Chiefs will return to Moberly to play in a benefit basketball game on Friday, May 14, 1999. The game will take place at the Moberly Area Community College Activity Center at 7:00pm. The members of the Chiefs will play against a hometown team. Many extra activities are being planned to create an environment for all ages. The Title Sponsor of the event is Moberly Regional Medical Center. Pictured below is Brad Keller, American Family Insurance Agent who won an Autographed football from last years game. This raffle was for advertisers only by placing an ad in the game program. Brad was presented with the football during half-time of the game.
Why I invest in MRHF The Health Foundation is in a unique position since it is not connected directly with a health care institution. They have autonomy to seek input from the community and provide avenues for health care and related issues that allow them to respond in a timely manner. Residents from the Randolph County area need to realize the importance to invest in the Moberly Regional Health Foundation. This organization is a one of a kind by addressing most needs that no one else in this community does. I have supported the foundation for several years now and will personally invest in its good works for a long time to come.
